As a native Miami girl, I'd say I get around when it comes to exploring my city's various neighborhoods. I work in the Gables, live in Brickell, play in Wynwood and South Beach, and wind down in South Miami for Sunday night family dinners. But there's one area I had yet to uncover until recently, and that's Doral. Last week, I decided it was time to pop my Doral cherry, and I was going to go big or go home.
Upon driving into CityPlace Doral, I was pleasantly surprised by the sheer amount of dining options that awaited me. It has everything one might want when hunger strikes: countless casual eateries, several spots to satisfy a sweet tooth and even a few upscale restaurants for a classy dinner and drinks.
So how does one food blogger make up for lost time when presented with all of these options? A food tour, of course! I've always fantasized about doing a progressive meal, and I was lucky enough to turn this fantasy into a reality at CityPlace. So if you can stomach it, here's the lineup!
This casual bakery and restaurant is the perfect spot for a quick, lowkey meal that is sure to satisfy. You can pop in for one of their countless varieties of pizzas or indulge in a number of different tapas that are perfect for sharing. My personal favorite was the grilled octopus with arugula, garbanzo beans, roasted tomato and lemon. Wash it all down with the cocktail of your choice, then on to the next!
As I walked into Brimstone, I thought to myself, "Damnnn Doral, you've got it going on." What first caught my eye was the impressive bar, which seemed to be calling my name. Once my lychee martini passed the test (strong, not too sweet, picture worthy - check!), it was time to move on to bigger and better things. I tried to remind myself of the cardinal rule of progressive meals: Remember it's a marathon, not a sprint! However, as soon as the food hit the table, I threw caution to the wind. After sampling tuna poke, crab cakes, short rib and possibly some dessert (don't judge), I was wondering how I'd make to stop #3. But I'm a trooper - and so I persisted!
My last stop of the night was Kings Doral, which combines all of my favorite things- good food, great cocktails, solid tunes and BOWLING! This is far from your typical cheesy Miami bowling alley with its basic lanes and even more basic, greasy finger foods. King's is like the love child of your go-to night club meets gastrobar meets cocktail lounge meets arcade all wrapped up into one pretty little package. It's the ultimate spot for your next Doral date night...and if you're not concerned about maintaining your girlish figure for said date, order this: Loaded Sweet Potato Waffle Fries with diced bacon, bbq pulled pork, diced red onions, bourbon bbq sauce, shredded cheese and a fried egg on top.
So next time you find yourself in Doral, I recommend you pop into CityPlace for a quick meal - or two or three.
