Move over Hillstone—there’s a new restaurant stealing the spotlight in Coral Gables. From the owners who brought you South Miami’s popular Town Kitchen & Bar, the restaurateurs came back with another lively venue off Ponce de Leon Boulevard and Miracle Mile, called House Kitchen & Bar.
Formerly Sushi Samba, House opened in March of this year and is quickly becoming the new go-to spot for young professionals and locals. The American-style cuisine “with a slight twist” is tasty and leaves you wanting more. Aside from the bustling ambiance, chic design and good company, here’s what we checked out when we were there for lunch:
1. Curated Cocktails: Cucumber martini, Negroni and “Rosé All Day,” which was a mix of pomegranate liqueur, Whispering Angel rosé, strawberry, mint leaves and a lemon wheel. The good news? The selection was plentiful—so even if these don’t float your boat, we guarantee you’ll find something for your liking. Happy hour is from 4-7 p.m. daily.
2. Savory Appetizers: Big Eye Tuna Poke “Aloha,” which is different from your typical tuna poke, with added ingredients like macadamia nuts and plantain chips to scoop with; crispy Brussel sprouts—can you ever go wrong?
3. Main Entrée: The Works Burger, which is a half-pound patty that comes with cheddar cheese, crisp onion tangles and sautéed onions and mushrooms. Needless to say, it was mouthwatering! We also shared a rotisserie chicken (house favorite) with probably one of the best mac and cheeses on the block… really, this jalapeño Mac and cheese was the bomb.com. And don’t be frightened by the word jalapeño. It was really only a mild kick and was mainly used for flavor.
So, next time you’re in the neighborhood (or not) and you’re looking to switch it up, make your way to House for good grub and a great time.
