Miami is a melting pot of all things Latin America. From the people to the music to my personal passion point – the food. So when the hunger strikes and you’re looking for some serious SABOR, the options are vast…but OJO: not all options are created equal!
So I set out on a mission – one where I committed to finding my go-to spot for Latin American eats. I searched high and low, consumed more empanadas and tequeños than I’d like to admit, and put on a few L-B’s in the process. All in the name of research, of course.
And now, without further ado, I’d like to tell you why I’ve chosen…drumroll please…
REASON # 1. TRIED & TRUE
While there are plenty of new kids on the block, Jaguar is the seasoned veteran of Latin American Cuisine and has been making guests “ooh” and “aah” over its inventive creations since it opened its doors in 2005. With a prime hunk of real estate like Jaguar’s, you know they’re doing something right since they’ve withstood the ultimate test of time. Since the beginning, Jaguar has always done things just a little bit differently, and this was actually the first restaurant in Miami to put the Ceviche Spoon on its menu. You know what they say: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery…
REASON # 2. HOME AWAY FROM HOME
Set in the heart of Coconut Grove, Jaguar has made a name for itself as a go-to neighborhood restaurant that locals can count on for consistently great food, ambiance and overall experience. You can come dressed up, you can come dressed down – all they ask is that you come dressed. Whether you’re looking for a casual dinner with family or friends, a fun place to grab drinks before hitting the town or even a lively brunch spot, Jaguar has got you covered. With its inviting atmosphere and friendly staff, you’ll always feel at home at Jaguar.
REASON # 3. CONNOISSEURS IN THE KITCHEN
When you take your first bite of food at Jaguar, you’ll demand to know the identity of the mastermind behind the dish. Well, here’s the big reveal: Chef Oscar del Rivero, Executive Chef of Jaguar, genuinely pours his heart and soul into each and every dish that leaves that kitchen. Born in Mexico City, del Rivero has always been inspired by Latin American cuisine and has honed his craft for more than 20 years in the field. Whether he’s preparing fresh ceviche, seafood or even decadent desserts, Chef Oscar truly is a jack of all trades. I personally challenge you to find an equally talented AND humble chef in town.
REASON # 4. FLAVOR-PACKED FOOD
Now you didn’t think I’d leave you hanging without telling (& showing) you some of Chef Oscar’s creations, did you?
While Jaguar is probably best known for its signature ceviche spoons, there is so much more to discover during any given meal at Jaguar. The variety of Latin American dishes is vast, and there’s truly something to satisfy all palates. Not only are Chef Oscar’s dishes jam-packed with flavor, but the ingredients he uses are so authentic, you just might be transported back in time to your abuela’s kitchen. I’m talking about Chile peppers imported from Mexico, Peru and Brazil. I told you – it’s the real deal!
Below you’ll find just a few of Chef Oscar’s can’t-miss creations:
So there you have it - my work here is done. Now on to my next “research” project. Stay tuned!
