Recently, I got to experience a few of my favorite things all #rolled into one glorious afternoon in Wynwood. I never turn down an opportunity to indulge in some fresh sushi and I certainly never pass on bottomless drinks…so when I found out I had the chance to have both AND get my hands dirty in the process, I was giddy with excitement.
Allow me to walk you through my first ever sushi-rolling experience. When I walked into Kiji Cuzco, I was immediately struck by the colorful, eccentric décor. From funky wall designs to a neon sign that declared, “I’m fucking special” to racks of vintage clothing, I was intrigued to say the least. Was I entering a Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurant or some sort of underground bar-turned boutique?
Once I stopped ogling the space, I was ready to get rolling. Once a month, Kiji Cuzco offers a “Sushi With a Twist” class where you can play sushi chef for the day while simultaneously guzzling down champagne and sake. Can't really think of a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon, can you?
The staff at Kiji was incredibly attentive, making sure to walk us through every step in the sushi-making process while keeping us hydrated with constantly flowing bubbly. By the time my rolls were complete, I was pleasantly buzzed and marveling at the #sushiporn I had just created.
