Your Guide to Cinco de Mayo

By: Rebecca Charur

Who doesn’t love another excuse to down spicy margs and binge eat tasty tacos? With Cinco de Mayo upon us, the time has come to dust off those sombreros and parade the streets in stereotypical Mexican gear without a single ounce of judgment from bystanders.

But before all that is said and done, the move is in finding the right spot to take your drunk degenerate friends in a bustling Miami scene of over-priced bar drinks and cover charges. Thankfully, we’ve gathered a list of the best spots gearing up to give hispanics and gringos alike the worthwhile annual fiesta that this city loves to rally around.

Bodega Taqueria y Tequila

1220 16th St, Miami Beach, FL 33139

Bodega is getting the party started early at 3 p.m. with $5 Avion Margaritas and $2 Coronas. Make sure to stick around for their second annual Taco Eating Contest. Let’s face it; the real winners are those who bask in the contest’s 10 minutes of unlimited tacos.

Lolo’s Surf Cantina

161 Ocean Dr, Miami Beach, FL 33139

Ride the Cinco de Mayo wave all the way down to Miami Beach's newest Baja-inspired eatery where you’ll find $7 cocktails like margaritas, sangria, and Mexican Mules. Lolo's is kicking the fiesta up a notch with piñatas filled with candy and free drink cards.

The Raleigh

1775 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139

The Raleigh is taking their Cinco de Mayo party poolside with a self-serve taco bar and a live BBQ station that will be cooking up Carne Asada, Blackened Mahi and Carnitas. Chow down as you sip on drink specials like $9 Margaritas and shots of Casa Noble Tequila and $25 beer buckets.

The ROOFTOP at E11EVEN

29 NE 11th St, Miami, FL 33132

The ROOFTOP at E11EVEN is throwing it down with $3 Avion Cocktails, $3 Coronas and $1 Tacos – everything you want out of a Cinco de Mayo fiesta plus a sweeping view of Miami.

La Cueva

1111 SW 1st Ave, Miami, FL 33130

ATTENTION: Free tequila shots from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. at Brickell’s one and only Mexican cave. This is not a drill!

Baru Latin Bar

901 Brickell Plaza, Miami, FL 33130

A Cinco de Mayo at Baru Latin Bar would look something like this: Swaying to the beat of live mariachis as you sip (or chug) $25 buckets of Dos Equis and Tecate, $8 Patron Reposado, Margaritas, and $5 tequila shots. That night is looking pretty good.

Bitter Truth

3252 NE 1st Ave #124, Miami, FL 33137

Bitter Truth is throwing it back to college by way of a free tequila shot when you take it off their ice luge. Together, the combo will take your Cinco de Mayo to new heights.

Nikki Beach

1 Ocean Dr, Miami Beach, FL 33139

Join Nikki Beach as they test the happy hour limits with an all day happy hour from noon until 11 p.m. Specials include $7 Cucumber Jalapeño Margaritas, Shrimp BLT Tacos (3 for $15), fish tacos (3 for $10), and $7 Chicken and cheese quesadillas.

4 Rivers Smokehouse

2660 North University Drive

4 Rivers Smokehouse is celebrating the sweet side of Cinco de Mayo with Strawberry Margarita Bayou Bars ($2.99) spiked with tequila and sprinkled with salt, and Piñata Cupcakes ($3.25) birthday cupcakes filled with M&M’s and sprinkles. Both will be available from May 1 to May 6, because why not make Cinco de Mayo a week-long celebration?

ORA’s Anti Social Room

2000 Collins Avenue

The Anti Social Room is your perfect late night destination with doors opening at 11 p.m. and complimentary late night Avion Tequila Margaritas between 2 a.m. – 3 a.m. The celebration is set to feature Day of The Dead inspired dancers and decor, as well as a live Mariachi performance.

It’ll be a night to remember and a morning hangover you’ll probably want to forget...
